Swati Puchalapalli

Director, TerraViridis / Director, VeraTatva 

B.Arch (JNTU Hyderabad), MSc in Environmental Building Services (Edinburgh). 

Swati is an Environmental Design Consultant with over 17 years of experience in Environmental building design, computational analysis and assessment and environmental policy research. 

 

She is the founding partner and director of Terra Viridis, an environmental design consultancy based in Hyderabad that she started 8 years ago and the director of VeraTatva, a collaborative engineering consultancy specializing in high performance design. She works extensively with Infosys, the Manipal group campuses and hospitals, KL University, IPE and several other institutions, commercial complexes and hotels. She has also worked on developing the environmental building design guidelines and a road map for their implementation for the city of Hyderabad (for Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority).

 

Swati is a Visiting Faculty at CEPT University, Ahmedabad and a Guest Lecturer for B.Arch and M.Arch students at Manipal Institute of Technology Manipal, JNTU Hyderabad and RCEUS Osmania University.

 

Prior to this, she worked at BDSP Partnership, London, a Sustainable design and engineering consultancy for 6 years. While a BDSP, she worked with several international architects such as Richard Rogers partnership, Norman Foster and Partners and Renzo Piano workshop on projects such as the National Welsh Assembly Building in Cardiff, GOGGS, London, Columbia University Masterplan, and Central Market in Abu Dhabi. 

 

Swati is a strong proponent of passive design as the first step towards sustainable design, constantly applying learnings from local vernacular to new buildings. Terra Viridis works extensively with computer based building analysis to help architects make design decisions.

Swati has been associated with GRIHA for several years as a Founding Member as well as a TAC member. She is also on the advisory board for LEED.

Aalok Deshmukh

General Manager and Head – Energy Efficiency, Schneider Electric India

Mr. Aalok Deshmukh has over 17 years of experience spanning contributions to more than 125 projects in 11 countries, including energy and sustainability implementation, consulting and research in the corporate, government and non-profit sectors. In 2016, Aalok was recognized as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Fellow (LEED Fellow), which is the highest professional credential awarded by Green Business Certification, Inc., USA. Aalok has experience in sustainability strategy, green buildings, commercial building performance benchmarking and energy code implementation assistance, building simulation, energy auditing, building commissioning and retro-commissioning, as well as measurement and verification. He is frequently invited as a guest lecturer at architecture and engineering colleges, and as a speaker at various conferences and panel discussions.

At Schneider Electric India, Aalok works on assisting key customers with developing their enterprise energy management strategy. He has also managed Schneider Electric India’s internal program to reduce energy use at their most energy-intensive factories and offices by approximately 37% over a five-year period, worth avoided energy costs of INR 77 million; and he led Schneider Electric’s efforts resulting in LEED Commercial Interiors Platinum certification for their own new super-efficient R&D Centre in Bangalore.

Prior to joining Schneider Electric, Aalok headed the USAID-funded bilateral ECO-III Project, where he worked as a Technical Advisor to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and to the Government of Gujarat. Previously, Aalok worked as a Senior Consultant, Built Environment at Rocky Mountain Institute, Boulder, USA; and Farnsworth Group, Atlanta, USA. He is a licensed architect in India, and a Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP). He has a Master of Science in Building Design from Arizona State University, Tempe, USA and a Bachelor's in Architecture from Rachana Sansad's Academy of Architecture, Mumbai.
